Neil deGrasse Tyson:
In a four dimensional civilization(assuming the fourth dimension is time) would it be possible for lower class citizens to all share the same house at different times? in other words people would not rent their own apartments, they would rent a time slot at a communal apartment and simply commute back or forward to that time slot. Additionally could this concept also be the case for offices?
Neil deGrasse Tyson
Fascinating concept. By lower class, I presume you mean poor people? In the UK, of course, it can also mean non-aristocrats.
If you have access to the time dimension, then by returning to the same time slot you are simply re-living that time interval exactly as you did before. You will not be accruing sleep or productivity or anything. To do that you need a. freshly lived time-slot.

Hey Neil! I had a question about supernovas. So I understand how a star could collapse once it has produced too much iron and runs out of fissionable material and loses the outward pressure from the nuclear reactions. But what causes it to then rebound outwards and explode?

I'm currently reading Astrophysics for People in a Hurry. You will probably not be surprised that I find the first second after the Big Bang to be hard to comprehend. In particular, you say that after 1 second, the universe has grown to a few light years across. Why doesn't this violate the universal speed limit of the speed of light?

Thanks, Neil, for answering my questions this year. I think I can say on behalf of many that you have enriched our lives. Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year! Have a good time with your family. I hope I haven't asked nonsense... Ha ha... But I have more where those came from. :) For when, the Spanish translation of Starry Messenger?
