Lorena Miyuki asked Heidi Cullinan:

Heidi, how does the male audience respond to your books? Being a female author writing gay male fiction, do you have any trouble with that?

Heidi Cullinan I haven't had trouble personally, no. I would say a good 40-50% of my readers are men, and they're the ones more likely to email me and say thank you for writing. The gay men I know personally who read my work turn their head a lot when they look at me after the first book. "How do you KNOW?" is a question I get a lot. I don't really have an answer for it. I think it's actually more them trying to process this nice lady they knew from UU or school functions or who they see at the grocery store, who also writes erotic gay sex. I think it's weirder to know me in person. They walk around me like they're trying to see where that woman seeps out.

Mostly these are the characters who talk to me. I don't know why. Though starting next year it will be less just gay and more LGBT the whole alphabet. Which maybe will be even weirder for my local friends, IDK.
