Leah Raeder Hi Mai, thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed Unteachable. As for where my inspiration comes from...everywhere, certainly, but especially poetry. Great poetry makes us see the world with new, unjaded eyes, like children. It transforms the ordinary and banal into the epic. I read and love all sorts of poetry, but my favorites over time have remained Sylvia Plath and Emily Dickinson--Plath for her exquisite wrangling of language; Dickinson for her penetrating insight and honesty.

I just finished reading Unteachable and I'm a bit surprised about the "huge age gap" thing. I loved the quotes pertaining to relationships with an age disparity, I even posted some on my blog. There are 'only'14 years between them, there are couples with a 35 year age gap if not more, but I know it's tabou as he's her teacher. What do you think about age gaps yourself?
