Linda asked Leah Raeder:

Hi Leah, I've been planning on reading Unteachable for ages and today is the day when I can finally say I HAVE READ IT AND LOVED IT. How do you come up with such beautiful sentences and making everything so vivid? Where was your inspiration? Can't wait to read Black Iris! xxx

Leah Raeder Hi Mai, thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed Unteachable. As for where my inspiration comes from...everywhere, certainly, but especially poetry. Great poetry makes us see the world with new, unjaded eyes, like children. It transforms the ordinary and banal into the epic. I read and love all sorts of poetry, but my favorites over time have remained Sylvia Plath and Emily Dickinson--Plath for her exquisite wrangling of language; Dickinson for her penetrating insight and honesty.
