Hi, Tim. I'm just starting Descent, and I'm hooked already. I love the writing. Would you mind sharing a little bit about how the writing process worked? Did you write every day? Did you write in a certain time/place each day, or did it vary? How long did it take you to complete the novel? Thank you!
Tim Johnston
Hello, Allie! Thank you so much for reading Descent, and so sorry to take so long to answer your good questions! Once I began writing the book, I decided I would only work on it when I had the entire day to do so--starting early & writing for as long as I had the energy. As a carpenter, there weren't a lot of those days, which is one reason the book took me six years to write! I wrote mostly in whatever most comfortable chair or sofa of whatever place I was living in over that time, because the more comfortable I was physically, the longer I would stay where I was & keep writing.
Hope that answers your questions, and I hope you enjoyed the rest of the novel!
All best!

Thanks so much for writing DESCENT, Tim!!! It was one of my favorite reads of the year, and one of the best mystery/thrillers I have ever read. The book reminded of both THE COLLECTOR by John Fowles, and INTENSITY by Dean Koontz. Can't wait to read your next book... Just wondering if you grew up in Iowa?

You have ruined me. Such brilliance-now anything I read going forward will be compared to The Current. You have set the bar high and I thank you for it. Many mysteries fall short of depth and character development. Maybe now others can see a new standard and begin to revolt against the James Patterson trend. ????

Read and greatly appreciated your novel Descent. I'm curious how you made the jump from short-story writer to adult-novel writer. Did you plot out your novel? Deconstruct similar novels? Was this your first crack at an adult-novel or are there others gathering dust in a drawer somewhere? Thanks for the work.
