Goodreads asked Emerson Shaw:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Emerson Shaw My story was inspired in part by a true story. My sister's life was flipped upside down a couple of years ago. Her situation was so unbelievable she told me I should write a story about. Well there is a saying that goes, "Be careful if you're friends with an author because if you make them mad they might kill you in their next book." That applied to my situation. She was wronged and it was difficult for me to watch the amount of pain she was going through. So, the villain's end in my book was my therapy.

I also wove in a fictional love story because if you could make up your dream man, why wouldn't you? Jax is my main male character. He's a hot, quick-witted lawyer and says a lot of the right things, but he has a past that haunts him and that is where the suspenseful elements in my story come in.

Lastly, I wrote what I wanted to read. I like romance novels, but I like them with some meat, some suspense, and lots of steam. That is what I believe I've created.

Acts of Desperation is my debut novel.
