Goodreads asked Harrison Hayes:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Harrison Hayes Just keep at it. Don't pay attention to how bad your writing may be at first (or after the 11th draft) or how hard it may seem to keep going. Just keep writing...

Critics are good people and editors are great technicians - they all mean well and could help you lots, as long as you keep your head. Only you can tell your true story and you can do so only if you stay the course. Write for yourself and you'll be fine.
