Goodreads asked Salomé Jones:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Salomé Jones Develop your imagination and don't ever stop this. Think weird thoughts. Ask, "what if?" Experiment with various kinds of writing. And, of course, read good books. Read books you don't think you'll like but that are supposed to be good. It's like taking vitamins. It might not be the most fun read, but it will feed your brain technique and inform you about what's already been done. That's the basis of excellent new fiction, screenplays and so on. And write your tail off. Every day if possible. Write in your sleep. Write in your dreams. Write in your head while you're waiting in line.
