Hi Amy! I just finished The Law of Moses and read Making Faces a while back, both beautifully written. I absolutely love your characters!! How did they come about? Mainly Ambrose & Moses. Any inspiration from someone you know?

Honestly, characters start with a seed of an idea, and that seed grows and flourishes as you spend time thinking and layering. A character, like a child, never comes fully formed. They develop over time. I don't have any real inspirations for these characters, truthfully. I had a brother who served time in Iraq in the National Guard - he went with a group of his friends, just like Ambrose. So I supposed that really was what started me thinking of creating a character like Ambrose. Moses is completely random, though. I had an idea for the plot for The Law of Moses first, and then had to create a character that could make the plot come alive.

ok, random questions (why? because I think it is funny!!! Woohoo): Hot chocolate or coffee? pie or cake? Summer or winter? Burger King or McDonald's? Pizza or lasagna? Nachos or French Fries? Bath or Shower? what's your favorite swear word? what's your favorite Disney movie? From all of your books, which one has your favorite cover and why?

I have so far read “what the wind knows” which I enjoyed greatly for many reasons; its very solid storyline with true historical events, a beautiful tender love… I was wondering which of your books are your most favorite? I know that it’s not easy to ask someone which of your children is your favorite. But maybe some of us has indeed a list or names…
