Goodreads asked Cynthia Port:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Cynthia Port Try not to dabble in it. This is hard, I know, because I work and raise kids, but your writing brain will work best if you can set aside 3 to 4 hours a day every day for at least a couple of days in a row at a time. In other words, instead of 1 hour a day, 6 days a week, set aside 3 hours all on one day and 3 more the next. It's also best to do at least some of this daily writing toward the end of the day, just before sleep. That way your mind will still be "writing" while you're asleep. I've woken so many times with creative answers to daytime writing conundrums this way. It's an added boost, and who doesn't want that for their writing?
