Goodreads asked Stuart Land:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Stuart Land Listen first, write second. Stories are about people (unless they're about animals or inanimate objects), so it's a pretty good idea to understand people before you can write about them. Read a lot. Write a lot. Rewrite even more. But don't rewrite while you write, unless you're me, and you're not. Don't take it personally if no one gives a rat's a** about whatever it is you write. What the heck do they know. Basically, a writer writes because they're compelled by unknown forces. If you're not, if you'd just as soon go cow-tipping with you yahoo homeboys, then writing's not really your thing. Unless you tippin' cows so you can write about it.
