Goodreads asked Brian Lindow:

How do you get inspired to write?

Brian Lindow Step 1: Create some free time.
Step 2: Make an emotional playlist on iTunes (a bipolar mixture is the best...sad music mixed with pop mixed with intense soundtracks mixed with opera mixed with...you get the idea).
Step 3: Remove ALL expectations.
Step 4: Start listening and see where it takes you. Write down anything that seems even remotely useful.
Step 5: Like a painter with finger paint, start mushing things together, running your fingers from one blob of color to the next. See what combines well, the crazier the better.
Step 6: Step back when you are out of time or feel like you've got something and start looking for what looks like the most fun to explore/write and yet still fits your story and run with it. See where it takes you and what it does to your story.
Step 7: Share it with a good (sane) friend who can tell you if you're crazy or if you're on to something and you're off to the races again :)
