Goodreads asked Derek Power:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Derek Power Read everything. Write often. Converse with your friends and trust the advice of strangers. The old cliches all apply. My main piece of advice is to set a daily word limit and stick to it. Personally I am to write 500 words a day. Somedays this is easy to meet, they flow freely, others you could struggle to get to 100. The trick is to always work on it until you hit the target. 500 words doesn't seem a lot but when your novel is 80,000 words in length then chipping away 500 a day makes it an easy mountain to climb.
