Goodreads asked Karen Azinger:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Karen Azinger 1. Start writing, write some more, keep writing and never stop!
2. Read books, read widely and deeply, especially in your genre. In my opinion, the best way to learn how to write is to read! Learn the good, the bad, and the ugly from those who have gone before. When you read a book you love, figure out why you love it, and then apply that learning to your own writing.
3. Once you think you've written something good, get strangers to read it. Listen to everything they say, then develop a talent for knowing what advice to take and what to ignore. Do NOT skip this step!
4. Go back to 1 and keep writing, reading, editing, reviewing and your masterpiece will evolve before your very eyes! When your story and your prose sing, then publish it! Best of luck to you!
