Sarah Ockler Hi Talia! Thanks so much for reading The Summer of Chasing Mermaids! The song itself was fictional, but it was inspired by many different Soca songs I discovered while researching the book. One that really got me is a song by Alison Hinds called "Roll It Gal." Love that song, and the moment I heard it, I knew Elyse would be inspired and motivated by it.
