Avoid doing what's been done. Unfortunately, it seems like the publishing industry as a whole is getting stuck in a rut where they just want the same thing repackaged over and over with a different cover. Find your voice and write about what interests you, and not necessarily what you think an agent/publisher is going to jump on right away. Because honestly, do we need another "teenage outcast goes to special school" book?
