Anuradha, What influence did poetry had on you growing up in India?

Anuradha Bhattacharyya In India people quote poems off hand. It has always been a pleasure to listen to grey haired, bearded fellows who continuously recite poems in Urdu and Hindi in get togethers, parties, classrooms ... an oral tradition. I have read poems in English in school and college as part of my education. When I wanted to express my feelings, I found it easy to put them in verse, metaphorically as well as rhythmically. So ... I am a poet !
