A Goodreads user asked Jennifer Weiner:

Hi Jen! I have loved following you on Twitter for a few years now, and I just recently read your debut novel, GOOD IN BED. I'm wondering whether your process to get that story out was similar to Cannie's process of getting her screenplay into the right hands? Did you have your own Maxi Ryder?

Jennifer Weiner Getting a novel into the world is not unlike selling a screenplay - first you find an agent, then your agent finds a buyer. I think I had a fantasy - maybe I'm not the only reporter who did? - that you'd meet someone for an interview and realize that you were meant to be friends, or meant to be together, or meant to be something more than interviewer/subject. So no, there was no real-life Maxi Ryder in my life. I was, however, supposed to meet Minnie Driver once, and then she blew me off...so Maxi was my fantasy of what would have happened if we'd actually met. [Now that I've had a chance to meet some real-life actresses, I can tell you, and my 28-year-old self, that the chances of us hitting it off? Not good.]
