Kris Ivy asked Jack Gantos:

Good day Mr. Gantos, Do you know the particular point in time that you decided to be an author? OR-Do you suppose that there was a sort of deciding factor or influence? OR-What inspired you to write The Trouble in Me?

Jack Gantos After reading a lot of good books and keeping a journal I think it was roughly around the time I was entering high school that I thought I'd like to write books. Then I went to college for creative writing and started publishing, so it worked out. As for THE TROUBLE IN ME--I wrote that book because I think when I was about 14 that is the age (and events in TROUBLE IN ME)--when I began to make a series of bad decisions about how to live my life that led to the bigger trouble which I write about in HOLE IN MY LIFE. thanks, jg
