Goodreads asked Julia Bell:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Julia Bell It's tough being a writer and I'm sure that applies to published as well as self-published writers. Readers don't take prisoners and if they don't like your story, then they will tell you. This is not only heartbreaking but also demoralising (this includes rejections from agents). Firstly, be like Queen Elizabeth; don't complain and don't explain. Secondly, take criticism on the chin, but certainly enjoy any praise. Thirdly, DON'T GIVE UP. Every setback makes you stronger as a writer and if writing is what you want to do, you will discover that a setback/rejection, will make you want to fight on. And don't forget, every famous author started as an aspiring writer.
