I now have a definitive answer to that. I was trying to make Xandrian Stone book 5, but was blocked - it just did not come together.
Then I started with a new story, Eondrias. The first book of that is finished now, and Xandrian Stone is growing again, so the block is removed.
So, to un-block myself, I need to flush my brains clear of all the little bits and bobs of story that did not work to become able to think clearly again. De-fragmentating your hard-drive is quite similar to that, I believe.
