It can be anything from the smell of a flower, the basement of a shopping centre (long story), music, a person in the queue at the supermarket, or the taste of fish and chips by the sea. I then carry the idea around, simmering in my brain. It can a year or so later when I finally know how the story is going to turn out. Then I write it!
