Meagan Myhren-Bennett
Meagan Myhren-Bennett asked Melanie Dickerson:

Hi Melanie, I love your books. When you sit down to write do you have a specific fairy tale in mind before you start the whole process? Or do you just start writing the story and the threads of the fairy tale / tales weave their way in as you write?

Melanie Dickerson Hi, Meagan! I sometimes have the idea for a story, just the beginnings of an idea, and then I think of which fairy tale it might fit with. And sometimes I think of a fairy tale I'd like to retell and the story ideas come as I think about the fairy tale. So I've done it both ways. But I never just start writing not knowing where my story is going. I always let it simmer a little in my brain and come up with several important scenes or plot points and character points before I start writing, and I always know which fairy tale I'm retelling. Thanks for your question!
