How do you get inspired to write?

John Broom I inherited one hundred and seventy letters my father wrote whilst serving in the Desert Rats in the Second World War. There began my interest in the interplay between faith and conflict in the civilian armies of the twentieth century.

Having embarked on a PhD on the subject, I came across the stories of many individuals who I felt merited a wider audience than the keen archival researchers who might read their accounts. Thus the idea for my books was born.
