Goodreads asked Kellen Cutsforth:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Kellen Cutsforth My advice would be to join author's groups as soon as you can. It doesn't matter what genre you like there are tons of groups out there from Romance to Horror or places for nonfiction writers such as myself. Networking is the best possible way to get your stories in front of someone who has some pull in the publishing world.

I think another piece of advice that is quite helpful is some words of wisdom I received from an agent several years ago. He told me "You need to get published before you can be published." What he meant was, before you submit your manuscript for your epic book to an agent or publisher try and get something smaller published like an article or a short story for a magazine. That way people in the business will see that you have some real experience and someone was willing to pay you for your work.
