How do you deal with writer’s block?

Melanie Tomlin Sometimes my characters like to go on vacation without me, resulting in my not being able to continue telling their stories. It's not writer's block as such, but it does mean downtime for whatever story I'm working on.

I keep myself occupied, until my characters grace me with their presence again, by focusing on writing poetry, editing my work or making notes for other stories they might be interested in appearing in.
