Goodreads asked Carol Berg:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Carol Berg That moment when one of my characters becomes a person. All of a sudden I know how he will react when I throw something at him or what she will or won't say in a stressful conversation or what it will do to that person's soul when I force him to do the last thing he would ever do. Sometimes it's early on in the writing process. Valen in Flesh and Spirit was whole when I wrote the first page. Sometimes it comes later. The Aleksander I wrote when I began Transformation didn't take shape until a few chapters into the book and then I realized that some of his actions did not fit the man I was writing about. A few adjustments in the story and I felt like I had him.
