Dianna Dorisi Winget Hi Aubrie! What a great question. I had the same question when my editor first showed the finished cover to me. She explained that most young readers like to envision the characters themselves, or even think of themselves as the character. So when photographic covers (like mine) are designed, the face is rarely shown. If the cover is sketched or drawn the same rules don't apply. Take a look at various middle grade covers and you'll see. At first, it really bothered me that Poppy didn't have a face, but now I've adjusted and I love the cover. I'm really glad you asked this question because a lot of readers have probably wondered the same thing :)
