Stephen King wrote a book called "On Writing". Grab it! For less than $10, you'll get some of the best down-to-earth advice a writer could have.
Aside from that... the other advice I could give you is don't be afraid to practice. There are plenty of fanfic or writing forums online, where you can try out different things without any real consequence. Go for it! No one gets a fully-written book without a lot of practice.

I've read all the Dire books to date and the short story about pre-popping the Yellowstone volcano. I've seen a couple of short stories as well I believe but only recall the one about the Graveyard Gang leader right now. Is there a complete list of all Dire materials to date in internal chronological order somewhere?
