Breony Wornes asked Peter V. Brett:

Hi Peter, may I just say that your Demon Cycle series is a great part of what has inspired me to attempt being a fantasy author myself. I was wondering, how long did it take you to plot out the series before putting pen to paper, and was it was thoroughly planned beforehand? or on occasion, was it sudden inspiration that drove the story?

Peter V. Brett Thanks so much! Proud to help inspire new writers. As for your questions, these are things a lot of new writers ask, but there are no hard answers. It's different for everyone. I started writing with a vague idea, wrote a chapter, let it sit for a while, expanded the world a bit, wrote some more, pondered the world more, wrote more, and on and on. By the time I finished the first book, most of the worldbuilding was in place, and I was able to turn my loose notes on the larger story into a tight outline for future books before I attempted to sell it. Now I plot meticulously. Each writer needs to fumble through this process in their own way.
