Goodreads asked Thomas L. Marshall:

How do you get inspired to write?

Thomas L. Marshall Current events are a great motivator and source of material. Soldier Boy, the first volume in The Adventures of Bryce Tyconnel Series, takes us in the early 2000's to Camp Bravo, the British base in Basra, Iraq during the second war. There the protagonist, Bryce Tyconnel, faces a baptism of fire and struggles with two of the basic themes of the book, violence and sexuality. It's fascinating to see how they influence Bryce as he builds an adult identity and develops his relationships. Faith, also a fundamental theme in Soldier Boy, and another area of controversy in present times raises issues for Bryce and his sweetheart, Isaac, early in the book, issues with which they must contend throughout and on into volume two of the series, entitled Pride of Lions (due to be published later in 2014). Faith, violence, and sexuality are so much at the heart of controversy in the world today, I am inspired, or more accurately, compelled to sit down and write.
