Hey Rachael, I really love your books, I was just wondering what is "Kill Switch" and "Black Room" about? I mean, why instead being apart of the series ("Spark", "Stray", "Shield") they are marked as "1.1" and "2.1"? Thanks xx
Rachael Craw
Hiya Taylah:
Thrilled to hear you've loved the books and thanks so much for taking the time to let me know. Kill Switch and Black Room are companion short stories set in the world of Spark.
"Kill Switch" was released as a part of the promotion for bk 1 which is why we numbered it 1.1. It is a scene you might recognise from Spark but it is told from the perspective of another character and gives some insight into a Stray's descent into madness.
"Black Room" was released with bk2 hence 2.1. This story is set 20 years before Evie's story begins. It is told from the perspective of Ethan Tesla, a character you get to know more in Stray. It gives a sneak peak into the Affinity Project at its turning point from ruthless hiring of killer mercenaries to an organisation tasked with cleaning up its genetic foot print. (Side note: I wrote Black Room between rewrites of Stray and it gave me the idea for the ReProg room which wasn't in the original version of the story. YAY - I love the ReProg room - so creepy.)
The short stories don't have to be read in any particular order and can be read as standalones from bk1&2. There will also be a companion short story released with Shield. Keep an ear out on my newsletter for details.
Hope that clears things up.

Thank you Rachael for this amazing series!=) I've never had more mixed feelings about the book.. I wanted it to end, I did not want it to end.. I cried A LOT in the end of Shield, but the phrase "This is not the end" gives me hope that maybe, someday, we'll meet Evie, Jamie and others again=) Am I right, Rachael?=) So, once again - Thank you Rachael for sharing this world with us=)
