A Goodreads user asked Tara Guha:

The layers within layers are keeping me absorbed in the story telling of that one man and his magnetism. He becomes their addiction. I love your writing style and how it lends itself to create a variety of images to match your words as though I am part of the Friday Folly and feeling their experiences as much as reading about them. Is it based on true events?

Tara Guha Hi Claire thanks so much for your question. I love that you feel as if you're a part of the Friday Folly - that's exactly what I hoped to achieve as I was writing it! It's not based on true events per se but it is based loosely on my experiences of being in a group, especially a group where I desperately want to belong and depend on it in some way for my sense of identity, but the same time feel that it's compromising my own values. That tension is at the heart of the Friday Folly. I've also experienced being around highly charismatic people and observed in myself how a desire for their approval can stop me being truly myself. Fortunately, none of the groups I've been in have become as extreme as the Friday Folly! I hope that answers your question, and I do hope you continue enjoying the book!
