Jacqueline Winspear:
I LOVE the Maisie Dobbs series. I feel like I am on the journey with her. I am glad you are continuing the stories. How did you come across such a compelling character? Probably others have asked you, but how did you become published? I am also a writer. Thanks for everything.

Nancy, for the first part of your question, I will refer you to this link:

For the second - when I had finished my first draft (I wrote the novel while recovering from a horrible accident, so didn't have the energy to go for a second draft), I bought Jeff Herman's book on Publishers, Editors and Literary Agents, and I began "profiling" agents. I came up with a list of 30 agents who I thought might be interested in my novel. I honed that down to 10 in my "A" group, ten in my "B"group and 10 in the "C" group. I'd not worked for a few months given my accident, so could only afford to send out 10 query letters at a time. So, off they went - my ten "snail mail" packages, which contained a query letter, a synopsis of the novel, and 50 pages comprising chapters from different parts of the novel. I was very lucky - three agents contacted me within a couple of weeks, and within about a month I had landed one of them! That's how it went - no easy way in, just good old fashioned determination.
