After thoroughly enjoying your terrific book, I was inspired to start my own book club with my twin sister (who is struggling with cancer). We are enjoying sharing books with each other, and fear only that our list of books to read together may be longer than our available time. It's so satisfying to not only share books that we love together, but to have another's perspective. Do you share with anyone else now?

I'm very moved that you were inspired to start your own book club with your twin sister, but so sorry to know that she is struggling with cancer. I'm thinking of both of you.
One of the things I so love about reading is that every time I read a book it makes me realize more books I want to read: other books by that author, maybe; or similar kinds of books; or non-fiction that relates to the work of fiction I just read: or vice-versa. So glad to know that you two are sharing books and also sharing with each other your unique perspectives.
As for me, I do share with books with several other people now. I have a wonderful friend who is in her mid-90s and we chat on the phone a lot (she lives on the other coast). We are always swapping book recommendations and discussing what we've read. And there's a guy I really trust at a local bookstore, and so it's great fun to trade recommendations and notes with him. And I'm even in a formal book club. It was started by another author and it's called "KidLit" and we only read young adult and middle-grade books, both classic ones and contemporary ones. Really fascinating and really fun.
I would love to know what you and your sister have recently loved.

Will Schwalbe:
Carey got a first in English Literature, and I have inherited all her books. She told me to read 'Staring into the Sun', Irvin Yalom. We both read Didion's 'Year of Magical Thinking'. And I find myself drawn to 'sad' books- 'When breath becomes air', by Paul Kalanithi was powerful reading, likewise 'Mend the Living' by Maylis de Kerangal? Thanks for your reply and good wishes. Eileen
