Hi Ruta, Thank you for taking questions. I so enjoyed Out of the Easy. The characters were amazing and the descriptions lifted me out of my life for awhile, and gave me a real feel for the people and place. Your dialog and also your text read almost lyrically. I was wondering if you have any musical background or inspiration in your writing? I'm looking forward to now reading more of your books. Wendy

Hello Wendy!
Thanks for this great question about music. Prior to becoming an author I worked in the music business for over twenty years. I love music SO much that when I listen to music it's an all-encompassing experience. So I can't write with music. But when I'm plotting a story and just thinking about the characters and their interactions, I definitely listen to music.
There are a few "intersections" between my careers in music and writing. Rhythm and melody is one intersection. After spending 20+ years with songwriters I learned how powerful rhythm and melody are in any creative project. Rhythm and melody make a phrase memorable. I keep that in mind while writing and I read my work aloud to listen to the flow.

Hi Ruta!!! I am a HUGE fan of Salt to the Sea and Between Shades of Gray! I love how you give famous events a new perspective, and I feel like I'm really learning as well when I read your books! How do you get inspiration for all of your different characters? They always seem so real, and though I have never been through what they are going through, they are always relatable! Thank you!!
