I got the idea for A New Look at Old Words while I was working on my historical fiction novel. I was looking for some authentic slang for my pirate crew and came across a dictionary of slang written in 1859. I thought it was perfect and ordered it. Then I realized that you needed to know the slang word in order to look it up. It was useless, until I started categorizing the words for my own use. Later on it occurred to me that this might be useful for other people too. So, viola. Here it is.
