For "Secrets of a Charmed Life", my F2F bookclub had two questions come up: 1. Where did the idea for the Bride's Box come from? 2. Was there anything removed or changed in the book during the editing process that you wish hadn't happened? Cheers
Susan Meissner
Hi Karen: I know your club had long since met and I apologize for not seeing this question until today. So very sorry. You can pass this along to your club members if you wish! When I started plotting this book I just saw a London teenager sitting in colorless flat on the East End drawing wedding dresses. I started asking questions about what this girl wanted out of life and how the war was going to change her and why she was sketching bridal gowns instead of landscapes. All of the answers became the backbone of the book. There weren't significant changes in the editing process except for a needed tightening of Emmy's relationship with her mother. Thanks for asking and again, my apologies for having missed this.

Hi Susan,
Just finished "Secrets of a Charmed Life" and loved it, especially the well-researched history of the Blitz. Which sister do you think was most to blame for the devastating outcome, i.e., sisters' separation and death of their mother? Even though Julia was very young, I couldn't help but blame her for not obeying her sister, then for hiding the bridal sketches.

Lived in San Diego for 35 years, still have friends in Rancho Bernardo, Poway, and Vista! Retired in FL to be near family. I just finished an ARC for As Bright as Heaven, absolutely loved it. Am now a super fan, will read other books. So, will there be a sequel to As Bright as Heaven?
