There seems to be a bit of debate... Do you consider Romeo and Juliet a romance or a love story, or neither?

Sally Kilpatrick Good question. I consider Romeo and Juliet to be a love story. Bard or no, if there's no happily ever after, I'm not going to call the story a romance. The popularity of Romeo and Juliet as well as its pervasive association with romance boggles the mind. To me, Much Ado About Nothing and Twelfth Night are far better examples of romance.
