Hi Jeff, I am absolutely MOVED by the life of Robert Peace and in my opinion, his name will live on because of you. Your book may very well save a lot of lives or "wake up" those that may be in a similar situation. Robert Peace did not die in vain and perhaps God put him on earth for those to learn from his mistakes. My heart breaks for Jackie. Is she still living in Newark. Is there a way to reach her, via email?
Jeff Hobbs
Hello and thank you very much for reading and responding to Rob's story, and reaching out with such kind sentiments. It means an awful lot, for real. I'm sorry for the years-long delay in responding to this--I really don't spend time on social websites but am trying to be better as my next book, Show Them You're Good, comes out in August, about young men finishing high school in different neighborhoods and aspiring for college. Jackie is still in Newark, in her home. She is doing well, though this is a really sad time for her as Rob's birthday was yesterday -- he would have been turning 40. She retired a few years ago but still works part time and also helps with food service in the school district. I'm afraid I can't share her email. I hope you understand. Wishing you all the best, sincerely, Jeff

Something that dances around the edges of your book is the challenge of finding a secure job, as hard for the Yale graduates as for Robert's friends from Newark. Do you think coming of age this era--recession, lack of jobs--contributed an additional heavy burden for Robert? Or does the story feel timeless?

Jeff, First off, let me say that your book literally made my top 10 (maybe top 1) list of all time. I love the way you write and truly felt like I was there with you during the story. I have thought often of contacting you with a book idea (which you probably receive all of the time)! Is there a good way to contact you about this? Thanks again for such a powerful book. Stacy

Hi Jeff,
Thank you for writing such a compelling tribute to the life of Rob (and Jackie) Peace. You weave the gamut of your emotions into a poignant and infuriatingly real narrative that opened my eyes to the complexity of Rob’s choices and the circumstances beyond his control. Do you think Jackie knew what Carl did at the time? And was staying with Jackie Carl’s way of replacing Rob as man of the house?
