Sunu Rajesh asked Penelope Douglas:

which the book/movie/tvshow inspired you to become writer?

Penelope Douglas Hi, Sunu,

I've always loved words and stories. Sometimes I wish I could go back to being a teen when I was never disappointed with anything I read, because reading something was better than nothing. I didn't analyze stories so much, and I wasn't so hard to please. Movies like Dead Poets' Society and books like Frankenstein and Catcher in the Rye taught me that no story is worth telling unless you have something to say. If you can't touch the audience, then your words won't live forever.

So yes, there were a lot of important movies, books, and songs over the years that encouraged me to dream and dig deep, but when New Adult hit the scene a few years ago, that's when I truly got bitten by the bug to write. I liked that writers were telling edgy stories about high school and college students, and since I love younger characters--the angst and drama--I finally found my niche.

I think the key to finding your happiness in life is to experience things. If I hadn't tried so many other genres, I might never have picked up that first NA book and be doing what I am now. It takes work to find where you fit, and you can't wait for inspiration to find you. You have to go look for it.

Thanks for the question!
