I lead, or at least try to lead, our nieghborhood book club. I find that on a monthly basis there are usually only two of us who have read the book because nobody had "time" to read. I try to suggest great books, but do you have any advice to a book club leader that is struggling to engage her club to put down the Facebook and pick up a real book?
Kimberly McCreight
Cookies? I usually opt for bribing whether it's myself or my children. But in all seriousness, do you alternate who picks the books? Maybe pair them with food or other activities--I find that some of the very well-attended groups I go to do those things. Also, they alternate who picks the book and who hosts. That way at least that one person is invested. Also using the discussion questions and picking books that are a little polarizing can help--people like when there are differences of opinions. And you can always invite the author to join via Skype. I'm always happy to do it if my schedule allows and lots of other authors are too.

Hello! Given some of the twists and turns in Reconstructing Amelia, it seems like you would have many details of keep straight and probably lots of editing to maintain the storyline's surprises but still leave enough supporting evidence. How do you keep everything straight as you write and re-write?

I'm an aspiring writer and while I've almost completed my first novel, I'm about to go into foreign territory with trying to find a literary agent and querying. My question to you is how long did it take you before an agent signed you and were you constantly sending out queries? Thank you so much and I absolutely loved Reconstructing Amelia!

Hi Kimberly! I really enjoyed Reconstructing Amelia, so much so I dissapeared for the day it took me to read it. My question is where did the idea for your story come from and what process do you go through to construct your characters? Thanks for your time, I look forward to reading more of your work!
