Goodreads asked Kelly Stevenson:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Kelly Stevenson When this happens, it usually means I'm too close to the story. My best advice is to walk away and do something else, whether it be as simple as going to a movie or cleaning the house. When you get away from the story for a while, you will see things more clearly.

Music works best for me. I'll go for a run, and then it's just me and my iPod. It clears my mind, releases tension, and before I know it, the issue is solved and I have to stop to jot down notes. (Thank goodness for the iPhone notepad! It's come in handy on those runs, let me tell ya!) Music frees my mind every time.

Find what works for you, but the bottom line is: step away from your work! Once you're preoccupied with something else, the answer you've been looking for will find you, and you can get back to writing, feeling refreshed and inspired.
