Hi Bryn! I just wanted you to know your book is one of my favorites this year! I realize the story is based partly on your real life experiences... While I can't say I wholly relate, a part of me can (w/o going into too much personal detail). I hope to be a writer someday and wonder how I didn't think of Wavy? She is perfect. Best of luck to you and your writing future! I'll be recommending your book to many friends:)

Best of luck with your writing, Sarah! For me, one of the most important things I do when I'm working with a new project is to let the characters develop organically. I take them as they come and engage in a lot of role playing to figure out who they are. Frequently I'll even inhabit a character in my spare time. I'll walk around, being that character, thinking of how I'd respond/react in a situation. That may sound silly, but it does help me figure out who a character is. This is how Wavy happened, and having written her, I would not describe her as perfect. While writing her, she was frequently aggravating, stubborn, reckless, and hard to understand. So many of the things she does in the book are things that made me want to scream, "No! Don't do that!"

Hi Bryn! I read AtUaWT two weeks ago and it's still stuck with me. Very few books do that, so first and foremost, thank you for writing such a wonderful book. I thought at times that Wavy, especially in her earlier years, came off as almost feral. Was that intended? Also, I'm intrigued by your mention of a relationship similar to Kellan and Wavy. Would you ever write even just a blog post about your relationship?

Did you always envision the novel told from multiple points of view? How did you channel those voices for each chapter? Did you have a favorite perspective to write from, and was there a character it was more difficult to find empathy for at certain points?
