Goodreads asked Andy Rice:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Andy Rice Aha! Writer's block I dread.

So, I usually give myself a time limit, say fifteen minutes. And then, if nothing, I take a small notebook and pen, my iPhone and headphones and go for a walk to listen to a podcast. Something like 'The Ezra Klein Show', '99% Invisible' or even 'Old Time Radio'. Anything unrelated to what I'm writing.

Importantly, I walk and concentrate on what I'm seeing and hearing. Usually this leads to an abstract thought and so I make a note. This note is usually a good starting point that leads quite naturally into the next piece of work.

By the time I get back to my desk, I'm usually good to go.

Mind you, this method isn't sure fire, but mostly works. And, if it doesn't, I try not to worry, there is always the next day.

I hope this helps. Thanks for the question.
