Goodreads asked Debra E. Marvin:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Debra E. Marvin If you think you're a good writer, you probably need to wait a few years to publish. Year after year, writers see how much they've improved if they keep working at the craft and learning. You might be a good storyteller (that's half the battle), but if you don't study the craft by watching, reading, learning and most of all practicing, your work is probably not going to be as good as you think it is. Just because you can publish a book that your friends like, don't do it if you have a serious commitment to be an author.
