Goodreads asked William Alan Webb:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

William Alan Webb Train yourself in your craft. Writing is a business even more than it's an avocation, and if you don't have a thick skin it can eat you up. YOU ARE GOING TO BE REJECTED. A lot. You will probably get some negative reviews. Your job is to be dispassionate and decide if there is any merit to the reviews or rejections, and to not take it personally.

Easier said than done, I agree, which is where training comes in. You must believe in yourself and your work more than you believe in your critics.
