Goodreads asked Mara A. Miller:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Mara A. Miller Keep writing. Don't let someone tell you that it is just a hobby. Take English classes in college and high school, even if you can't stand classic literature. It's the writers like Edgar Allen Poe and Jane Austen who you need to learn about first. If you want to get a creative writing degree in English in college, do it, and don't let someone tell you the degree will be useless. It's invaluable. I don't care if you're writing fan fiction: WRITE.
