In the case of Chasing Portraits, I spent many years reading, thinking, and scribbling down my thoughts before I was truly ready to write the book. I was compelled by the responsibility of world history and my family's own story to sit down and write Chasing Portraits. I am a writer, a reader, a lover of words on the printed page, so putting the story down on paper seemed like the natural thing for me to do.
