Goodreads asked Lissa Oliver:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Lissa Oliver The idea for Sainte Bastien developed many years ago. I wondered what might be happening to one of the characters in an earlier book, Chantilly Dawns, after I had finished writing about him. An ambitious apprentice jockey crept into my thoughts and took a strong enough hold to niggle at me until I began wondering about him and his story instead. From that point my thoughts revolved around him and what would happen if I put him in this situation, or did this to him? From those possibilities arose Sainte Bastien.
