"Inspiration" isn;t the correct way to look at it. Writing is more about uncovering, rather than waiting for the muse to show. Muses are fickle. Writers are farmers or miners. You've got to go out and do the hard work. Then you can have something nice (bread, a coal fire) afterwards. That's where rewriting comes in.
